Q1. Can I turn up without knowing anyone?
Yes โ€” and because Melbourne runs weekly, you'll never be the only new face twice. Most Wednesday regulars started out solo too.

Q2. Do I need to RSVP before I arrive?
Yes, every Wednesday requires a Meetup RSVP.
We check the list at the Little Lonsdale Street entrance, so click "Attend" ahead of time.

Q3. How much does it cost to get in?
Free if you RSVP early.
A$5 if you book within 24 hours of the 6:00 pm start.
Please grab a drink at Diesel Bar & Eatery to support the venue. ๐Ÿบ

Q4. What languages are spoken at the event?
English, Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese or Korean โ€” Wednesday's mixed room means you can switch mid-conversation without anyone blinking. ๐ŸŒ

Q5. Is it a fixed start-to-finish event?
No โ€” it's a weekly drop-in, so come straight from work and leave whenever. There's always another Wednesday.

Q6. Anything I should bring with me?
Photo ID. Diesel Bar & Eatery is licensed and will ask at the Little Lonsdale Street door, not the Melbourne Central side.

Q7. What are the house rules?
We have a Zero Tolerance Policy to keep our space safe:
๐Ÿšซ No Solicitation: No MLM, business recruitment, or poaching.
๐Ÿšซ No Harassment: No pickup artists or creepy behavior.
With a weekly cadence we see repeat faces fast, so anyone who breaks the rules is easy to spot and removed. Tell the host if anything feels off.

Friendship first. Lounge Asia is strictly a cultural and language exchange community. Our events are for making friends naturally and expanding professional networks. We are not a socializing service.

Where to meet Asians in Melbourne

Melbourne has one of the biggest Asian communities in Australia, but that does not make it easy to meet people. Most of the city's Asian social life happens inside groups you have to already belong to — university clubs, church groups, work teams, or friendship circles from back home. If you moved here on your own, there is often no obvious front door.

That is the gap Lounge Asia fills. We run an open social night every Wednesday from 6:00 pm at Diesel Bar & Eatery, 202 Little Lonsdale St in the CBD. You do not need to know anyone, you do not need an invitation, and you do not need to arrive with a friend. Most people turn up alone.

The room is a mix: international students, people on working holidays, professionals who moved for work, Australian-born Asians, mixed heritage and Wasian guests, and locals who simply enjoy the crowd. English is the shared language and nobody expects it to be perfect.

Getting there: the entrance is on Little Lonsdale Street only — you cannot come through Melbourne Central. It is a short walk from Melbourne Central and Flagstaff stations. Entry is free when you RSVP early on Meetup, or A$5 if you RSVP within 24 hours of the start time. Bring photo ID, because it is a licensed venue.

Lounge Asia has grown to more than 8,000 members across Australia and Asia with a 4.7 rating on Meetup. If Wednesday does not suit you, we also run Sydney every second Saturday and Brisbane every second Tuesday.
